Wood Badge Cafe Diary

Wood Badge Cafe's provide opportunities for Adult Learners to meet with a Training Adviser to complete their Personal Learning Plan or validate training modules they have recently completed.  We also have the ability to use Skype for those people unable to attend face to face meetings due to transport or childcare issues, or just for convenience.

The cafe's also give Adult Learners the opportunity to use the Training Team computers to access the e-learning packages on Scoutbase, receive training on the new national database Compass and/or Programmes On-Line (POL), or watch training DVD's.

One to one, small group or bespoke training sessions can also be organised on these days, however these can only be arranged with prior notice/discussion with the County Training Manager.

In order to process your application, and to give the Training Team time to ensure there are enough Training Advisers available, please try and submit your application at least 2 weeks prior to the date of the Wood Badge Cafe you are booking onto.  Please note that online booking closes the day before all events.

Using Skype

Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice, video and video conferencing calls over the internet.  Calls to users within the Skype service are free of charge.

The Training Team have 2 Skype accounts that they use for Wood Badge Cafe's, which allow leaders to dial into the Cafe from home and complete a PLP, validate training or undergo one-to-one or small group training.  Using this service is ideal if you cannot get to the Wood Badge Cafe due to transport or childcare issues, or just for convenience!

Skype is free to download and simple to set up and use on your home computer or laptop.  The software can be downloaded from the Skype website here.

To apply for a Skype session at the Wood Badge Cafe, just select 'Skype Session' on the drop down menu for the Appointment Type section of the application form.  Nearer to the time you will be provided with the Skype address to use for your appointment.
