2015

COMPASS AND DBS CHECKS

As you may be aware the online access to Compass was withdrawn in January 2015 but the system was still running “in house” at Gilwell where all our membership records and amendments have been actioned since then.

To facilitate the return of the online system in early 2016 it has been necessary to stop the in house system over a period of 5-6 weeks so I’m afraid the Gilwell Information centre are unable to deal with individual membership queries over this period.

It’s hoped that the online and in house system will return in late January 2016 when Commissioner’s and Appointment secretary’s will regain access and can then update all changes that have occurred during the closed period. So please keep me informed of any changes and I will update the system ASAP.

A phased restoration of access will see all members gaining access by the end of the spring when you will be able to view your own membership record and inform your manager of any amendment’s that are required.

During the closed period of Compass, the DBS checking system “Atlantic” is still  operating so please continue to get all those outstanding checks progressed.

The Scout Association (TSA) policy is that any member in a role that requires a DBS MUST have one. With the problems of Compass over the last year the policy of suspending members who had expired DBS certificated was deferred, but the TSA have made it clear that from March 31st 2016 all adult members who have contact with youth members must have a current DBS in place or they will be suspended.

So we have a 3 month window in which to get all those members without a current DBS registered. Please seek advice from your manager if you are in any doubt about the validity of your DBS or you may get the chop on the 31st of March.

As always, if you need any advice on Compass/DBS matters please get in touch with me.
