2nd Cowes Sea Scout Group |
| 2nd Cowes (St Mary's) Sea Scouts are one of a hundred Royal Navy Recognised Sea Scout Groups in the UK that reach certain standards regarding seamanship, badge work and drill. The first annual RN inspection was in 1942 and 2nd Cowes have retained recognition continually ever since, of which they are justly proud. This allows members to wear the RN Recognition Badge depicting the Admiralty Crown and Anchor and also to fly a Red Ensign defaced by the Scout Badge and Admiralty Crown. Members are also entitled to wear a special baseball cap depicting an anchor and 'RN 09', the Group's recognition number. The Group regularly sends Scouts to the annual RN Sea Scout Camp at HMS Bristol in Portsmouth for water based activities. At present 2nd Cowes is the only RN Recognised Group on the Island. | |

During Cowes Week the Scouts assist the Race Officers on the battlements of the Royal Yacht Squadron. They also help the Island Sailing Club on the Committee Boat and ride shotgun on RIBS (rigid inflatables) during the annual Round the Island Race. All sections of the Group take part in the main and Christmas Carnivals in Cowes not only to support the community, but more importantly, to have fun! 2nd Cowes has Beavers who meet Fridays, Cubs (Mondays) and Scouts (Wednesdays) and feeds older Scouts into the Cowes Area Explorer Unit. Members wear a royal blue scarf with the Group Badge on the back. This badge is based upon the Cowes Town Crest, with the approval of the Town Council.
