Isle of Wight Scouts are looking for adult volunteers to join their County team!

If you’ve ever wanted to get involved behind the scenes and help Scouting grow, these roles might be perfect for you!

ACC Development

The ACC Development role offers an exciting volunteer position for those adults looking for a new challenge that will provide growth support to District Commissioners and GSL’s. These adults will work across the Island.

Reporting to the Island Commissioner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that Scout Groups and Explorer Units Grow, Thrive and Develop by generating community links and supporting Group and District development plans and actions
  • Support Growth and Development Projects within Districts and Groups by providing materials and resources as well as planning and supporting development events
  • Be part of the County Team Support Structure working with District Commissioners, GSLs, DESCs, Network Leader and ACCs in order to establish development projects from concept to delivery
  • Engage and work closely with the Regional Development Service in order to deliver Growth Projects and training and ongoing support
  • Generate new ideas for Scouting Development on the Isle of Wight.
  • Deliver the Island Vision  aspects associated with Developing Scouting
You need to be:
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • A team player with strong leadership skills to enable others to operate effectively
  • Willing to accept a volunteer appointment within The Scout Association.
  • Able to commit a minimum of 3 hours per week and up to 6 days per year during weekends.
  • Information Technology literate and have access to a PC with Internet and email.
  • A creative thinker, dedicated to promoting and developing Scouting.

ACC Explorers

You’ll work in partnership with the County Commissioner to ensure effective operation of the Explorer Scout Section in their County in accordance with the rules as laid down in POR of The Scout Association.

Reporting to the Island Commissioner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure purpose, method, policies and programme are carried out throughout the Explorer Scout Section in the County.
  • Assist DESCs in the encouragement of all Leaders in the Explorer Scout Section to provide a balanced programme.
  • Co-operate with DCs to support all Leaders and Commissioners in matters relating to the Explorer Scout Section and its Leaders.
  • Promote and encourage in the Explorer Scout Section the implementation of all policies of The Scout Association, especially the key policies as laid down in Chapter 2 of POR.
  • Maintain a working relationship with DCs, DESCs, DESAs and other Commissioners within the County.
  • Work in partnership with CC in the management of the County and the Explorer Scout Section’s programme and activities.
  • Support the CC and the CTM with the learning needs of Leaders and Commissioners in the Explorer Scout Section.
  • Maintain contact relevant to the Explorer Scout Section age group within the local community.
  • Promote the Explorer Scout Section to the local Community.
  • Support the CC in the development of the County.
  • Run regular meetings of DESCs.
You need to be:

ACC Network

You’ll work in partnership with the County Commissioner to ensure effective operation of the Scout Network section in their County, in accordance with the Purpose, Principles and Policies of The Scout Association.

Reporting to the Island Commissioner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing a quality Scout Network provision across the County.
  • Maintain and grow the Scout Network across the County.
  • Ensure that Awards are robustly and consistently assessed, including signing certificate request forms for Scout Network Members (Queen’s Scout Award, Explorer Belt, Scouts of the World Award).
  • Collaborate with District Scout Networks to devise County projects, activities and programme experiences that can be made available to all Scout Network members across the County and, where applicable, beyond the County.
  • Maintain contact with relevant local community groups linked to the Scout Network age group or programme themes, including promoting Scout Network to the local community.
  • Ensure that there is a District Scout Network in each District.
  • Run regular meetings with District Scout Network Commissioners, and Programme Coordinators as appropriate.
  • Support the County Commissioner in the development of the County.
  • Ensure that interaction between District Scout Networks and the UK Scout Network is maintained.
  • Other tasks agreed with the County Commissioner.
