Isle of Wight Scouts do Beach Cleaning!

Many sections and groups hold regular beach clean activities. This year we’d like to get these activities concentrated into one weekend so we can maximise effort and maximise the PR for our community projects. That’ll be Saturday 16th June for preference, or Sunday 17th June if you can’t make it.

So far, we’ve got support from:

  • Isle of Wight Council will support us – they will take away waste from any Council owned beaches we clean (map above).
  • Our Ambassador, John Giddings, is hoping to get along to see what we’re getting up to (it’s the weekend before the IW Festival).
  • Surfers Against Plastic (SAP) (associated with Surfers Against Sewage) are supporting us.
  • SAP have a new clean beaches initiative in association with IW County Press and IW Radio. We’re working to get them onboard too!

And so far, we’ve got suggestions:

  • Only clean Council owned beaches (check on the map above)
  • Vik from 1st Shanklin suggested groups get together and clean beach stretches from opposite ends, meeting in the middle for a party!
  • Any more ideas or suggestions?

If you’d like to get involved either organising the event or simply by helping, please contact MaC (Media Development Manager) and sign upon our Facebook page
