Scouts Awarded and Invested in Council Chamber
On Tuesday evening the members of 6th Newport (St John’s) Scout Group had the pleasure of being invited into the Isle of Wight Council Chambers by The Island Mace Bearer Stephen Hammond and Cllr George Cameron.
First on the Agenda was the Investiture of Stephen as Group Scout Leader (GSL) by Deputy Island Commissioner Mandy Holloway, watched by Cllr George Cameron
This was followed by the Presentations of Two Chief Scouts Gold Awards to Lucy and Daniel. This award is the highest Achievement a Scout can achieve and is given when they have completed 9 Challenge Awards and activity badges.
Mace, as Stephen is known to the group in his role as Group Scout Leader, has been the mace bearer for the Island Council for 18 years. After a very informative talk about his role all members and invited guests were given the opportunity to hold the 15 lb gold plated mace which is over 300 years old.
Young Leader Jake tried on Stephen’s uniform and carried the mace.
At the end of the session, 3 new Scouts took their Promise making them formally Scouts of 6th Newport.
