Island Scouts of all ages are being encouraged to support ‘Looking Out From Lockdown’ an Island-wide project celebrating the creativity of Island people during lockdown, both in 2020, and again now in 2021.

Isle of Wight Scouts Deputy County Commissioner (Programme), Mandy Holloway, says: “Island Scout Groups and Units have arranged a range of activities to help young people keep in touch with their Scouting friends and ensure they keep active during this difficult and challenging time. There have been lots of camps, badge work, and cooking, both indoor and outdoor.  Many of the activities have involved other members of the family including parents and grandparents for the first time.”

Local arts for wellbeing charity Independent Arts is offering people the chance to exhibit their lockdown creations, be it painting, photographs, poetry, music, speech, pottery, writing, crafts, projects, inventions, baking, gardening or anything else creative completed to keep spirits up during lockdown.

Mandy continued: “There are many activities that Scouts have undertaken over the last year which could be exhibited as part of the ‘Looking out from Lockdown’ project.  And for Groups and Units that don’t think they’ve got anything from the last year, this could provide an excellent activity for young people in the current lockdown.

”Recently appointed Isle of Wight Scouts Ambassador Mrs. Susie Sheldon JP, is supporting the project and Independent Arts in her role as Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight.  In a video message made especially for Scouts on the Isle of Wight Mrs. Sheldon says she recognizes the difficulties that lockdown has presented Scouting with all face-to-face activities being suspended.

In the video, she says: “I want to urge all members of the Scouting family on the Isle of Wight to join in and submit something for the ‘Looking out from Lockdown’ project.  I know that there have been some excellent activities organized for Scouts on the Island and as an Ambassador for Isle of Wight Scouts, I want to be able to show off your good work.   So please join in and submit something."
